Pripsen General Information
Pripsen (generic name: Mebendazole; brand names include: Ovex / Antiox / Pripsen / Mebex / Wormin) belongs to a group of medicines called anthelmintics.
Pripsen is used in the treatment of worm infections.
Pripsen is used to treat:
Common roundworms (ascariasis)
Hookworm infections (uncinariasis)
Pinworms (enterobiasis; oxyuriasis)
Whipworms (trichuriasis)
Pripsen can be used to treat more than one worm infection at a time.
This medicine may also be used for other worm infections as determined by your doctor.
Pripsen works by preventing the worm from absorbing essential sugars needed for survival. This leads to the eventual death of the parasite within a few days.
Pripsen Recommendations
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Take Pripsen exactly as directed.
Pripsen can be used to treat adults and children aged 2 years and older. The dose of Pripsen may be different for different patients. The number of doses you take each day, the time allowed between doses, and the length of time you take the medicine depend on the medical problem for which you are taking Pripsen.
For common roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms:
Adults and children 2 years of age and over - 100 mg two times a day, morning and evening, for three days. Treatment may need to be repeated in two to three weeks.
For pinworms:
Adults and children 2 years of age and over - 100 mg once a day for one day. Treatment may need to be repeated in two to three weeks.
For more than one worm infection at a time:
Adults and children 2 years of age and over - 100 mg two times a day, morning and evening, for three days.
Pripsen tablets may be chewed, swallowed whole, or crushed and mixed with food.
Pripsen Precautions
Tell your doctor before taking Pripsen, if:
you are allergic to any medicines;
you have Crohn's disease, liver disease or ulcerative colitis;
you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
